Prostate Cancer

Are Gout Troubles Related to Prostate Cancer?

08/09/2004

Question:

My husband has prostate cancer. He has a lot of trouble with gout flaring up. Does this have to do with the cancer or is it a totally different thing? What can he do when it does flare up, like right now he has terrific pain in his foot. Should he put cold compresses or hot?

Answer:

The two conditions are probably unrelated, and I suggest he be treated with appropriate medications for his gout.  I am sure his primary care physician can prescribe the appropriate agents, and I suggest you contact him/her.
