Effects of Being Around Someone With Radiation Seed Implant09/24/2004 |
Hi. My father has prostate cancer and had radiation seeds implanted. His doctor told him that anyone under age 45 should keep at least 6 feet from him. His doctor stated that it is okay to give his grandkids a kiss and hug, but not to let them sit on his lap for any length of time. My son and I were planning on going on a weekend fishing trip with grandpa, 5 hours to and from in the car and sleeping in the same hotel room. Is this safe? What will the radiation do to us? Thanks.
This should not be a problem. Sitting on the lap for a week probably should be avoided, but other activities that you describe are perfectly safe.
