Swollen Gum and Bleeding

09/24/2004

Question:

I have had swollen gums and bleeding gum for a month now. i had my teeth cleaned 2months ago and had a minute amount fo gingivitus. I went to the dentist today who saids they were swollen and if i suck in with my mouth closed, i get a mouth full of blood. he asked if i had had a physical recently and if everything came back ok??? Why would he askme that. he has no idea why they are swollen or bleeding so bad and gave me some ORIS mouth wash. What else would cause this problem?

Answer:

In rare cases, bleeding swollen gums can be a sign of a problem related to certain medications or to certain blood disorders. If there is some question, examination by an oral pathologist would be best.
