Menstruation

11/02/2004

Question:

My periods are usually 26-27 days in length. But rarely are they are 34-36 days long. I had unprotected sex around the time that I was due to ovulate based on the 26-27 days. I was supposed to come on on Oct. 29 but didn`t come on until Sun Oct 31. Is there a possibility of pregnancy? My period seems to be normal. I`ve experienced the symptoms of pregnancy and I`ve heard they can confused with pms. But I`ve never experienced pms before. Can you help me out? I was really looking forward to this.

Answer:

Anytime you have unprotected intercourse you are at risk of pregnancy. If you have missed a menstrual period, the only way to know for sure if you are pregnant is to perform a pregnancy test. If you are, you need to start taking a multivitamin until you can get prenatal care. If you aren't, you need to determine what you are going to do to prevent pregnancy in the future. If you didn't miss a period, then it is unlikely that you are pregnant.
