How Long Does Recovery from Urinary Incontinence Take?11/29/2004 |
I had prostatectomy about 7 months ago and am still suffering from urinary incontinence. The doctor who performed surgery told me it would take 6 months to 2 years to recover from incontinence, but another urologist said there was little chance of recovery after 6 months. Which is correct?
The time varies and depends on the degree of incontinence. I have seen patients with partial incontinence get return of function within a year. If there is no improvement during this time, I feel the likelihood of improvement is minimal. I assume you are using Kegel exercises.
