HIV and AIDS

Am I At Risk Of Contracting HIV From Dermatitus?

12/17/2004

Question:

Do you think I would be at risk of contracting HIV or Hepatitus C working as a paramedic if I have infrequent cases of finger dermatitus? These outbreaks are very easily treated within 48 hours by using creams and are largley preventable! I would also be wearing gloves while treating patients! A consultant Dermatologist I saw doesn`t see any significant risks, but my ambulance service doctor seems worried!

Answer:

If you are wearing gloves and do not receive needlestick injuries, you are at low risk for acquiring these viral infections.
