Bipolar Disorder (Children and Adolescents)

Interacting with People with Bipolar Disorder

Are people with bipolar disorder dangerous to others in regards to having not only thoughts of suicide, but also of taking others lives as well?

With regards to my speciality of child and adolescent bipolar disorder, there is no evidence of increased homicidal behavior. However, one of the symptoms of bipolar disorder in children/adolescents is increased irritability. This symptom is frequently expressed as an intense physically aggressive and energized rage, which can lead to parents, siblings and friends getting hurt. Hope that answer is helpful. Best wishes.
