Mouth Diseases

Tongue

03/21/2005

Question:

I noticed months ago that I have a raised white bump on the right side of my tongue on the very edge of it. Also, I have a small bump on the tip of my tongue that is different looking. My Primary Doctor says it looks like a taste bud on the side of my tongue. but on the tip of it he says maybe it is viral he really didn`t know. Went to Dentist he really didn`t give me any answer. After doing some reading on your site. I`m scared that it could be oral or mouth cancer. How can I find out for sure. Who should I see. Thank You,

Answer:

Ideally, you should see an oral pathologist for evaluation. If you are in a region that is far from an oral pathologist's office, then you might want to see an oral surgeon. If the oral surgeon is not sure what the lesions are, then a biopsy can be done and sent to an oral pathology laboratory.
