Veins bursting????

My 35 year old female friend has veins in her wrist burst 3 or 4 times a year and it leaves large knot and bruised looking spots. My question is is this concerning or indicitive of anything? She wonders if it could cause blood clots? She doesn`t have insurance and is a single mom so only wants to see a dr. if its necessary. Thanks for any insights into this matter.

It is very unusual to have veins burst spontaneously at the wrist. She may be someone that bruises easily and is actually seeing significant bruising rather than actual bleeding.

In any event, this does not promote blood clots. Blood clots that we worry about and treat with blood thinners typically occur deep in the legs or arms, resulting in significant swelling of the affected limb.
