Transmission Of HIV From Unprotected Sex

07/21/2005

Question:

I had unprotected sex with a female and I'm not sure if she has any diseases, but sex only lasted a minute and within a minute I washed my penis with soap. Suppose if she had HIV, what are the odds of getting infected? I had the gonorrhea test done after 2 days. If it comes out negative, would it be safe to say I have a very slim chance of getting HIV or do I have to wait for the window period for HIV to be sure? Thank you.

Answer:

You are at risk for acquiring the infection if you have had unprotected sex with an HIV infected individual
