Face and Jaw Surgery |
Specific exercises11/15/2005 |
I had jaw implant surgery 2 years ago. I am a singer and the Doctor never mentioned that I would have this much difficulty opening my mouth. I can only open 3 fingers wide. Should I see a physical therapist? I need specific exercises to learn how to open my jaw wider - is it stuck like this forever? Is there really a way to open it wider without causing damage?
As my grandfather used to say: Tincture of time is the cure. This type of situation typically arises from bruising around the muscles of facial expression. Dry heat to the face and gentle massage of the muscles is typically all you need for this. However, I would encourage you to consult with your doctor to make sure that there is no other problem that may be causing this issue.
