10/23/2005

Question:

I am a 19 year old female. I was raped in November 2004 by an HIV positive man. I tested negative for HIV in March. Should I retest and what is the risk that I had a false negative?

Answer:

You would need to be retested at 6 months after the episode to make absolutely sure that you are not infected from that particular incident.
