Burning Mouth Syndrome11/21/2005 |
What do you know about treatment options for BMS?
Burning Mouth Syndrome is a clinical finding. Nobody knows why it occurs and what is the possible mechanism of disease formation. It is generally seen together with dry mouth syndrome. These patients experience lack of saliva and dryness in their mouth.
There are specific research centers in the USA concentrated in understanding possible disease process and treating patients with this syndrome. Current treatment involves controlling the acidic/basic balance in the oral cavity through special medications and mouth rinses. Most of the Oral Pathology and/or Geriatric departments in dental schools offer treatment.
