What to do for large pimples on the rear-end.11/28/2005 |
my teenage daughter gets large pimples possibly boils on her butt. I took her to the doctor and she suggested it was follicuitis. She has tried different otc creams but they seem to always appear. They can be very sore. Any suggestions?
Topical antibiotics will be the first choice of therapy. These are medications that can be prescribed by a dermatologist. The buttocks, especially around the perianal area could be a site for heavy staphylococcal colonization and it's not unusual to get bacterial folliculitis in the area. If the bumps are big (probably what most people refer to as boils), topical antibiotics will not be sufficient, and the patient would need to take a course of oral antibiotics. In all cases, maintaining good hygiene, with an antibacterial soap is considered helpful.
