Periods

12/15/2005

Question:

Last month my period was heavier than it usually is and my PMS symptoms were worse than they usually are (I got the same PMS as I always do it was just worse). This month my PMS was very mild and my period was lighter than it usually is. Is it possible that I ovulated twice last month so I didn`t ovulate this month, or what could be the reason of my 2 very different periods. Is it something I should be worried about?

Answer:

If your cycles were normally spaced, it is unlikely that you ovulated twice in one month and none in the next. If you hadn't ovulated, you wouldn't have had a regularly spaced period. The amount of bleeding and associated symptoms each month are determined by the amount of hormones produced each month and other yet unknown reasons. It is not uncommon to have a few different cycles each year. The most important aspect is whether or not they are regularly spaced or not. That is when I would get concerned ( if you miss a period or have them too close together). IF your cycles get heavier and with more pain, you should seek medical advice to determine if there is any thing that needs to be done.
