Addiction and Substance Abuse

Stopping Marijuana

12/14/2005

Question:

I was smoking marijuana daily for about 2 months. I stopped smoking it and feel somewhat better. This morning is my first "clean" morning, and I have flu-like symptoms and my head feels much like a hangover. I am wondering how long it will take to clear up and if I can do something to help my body get over marijuana. Thank You.

Answer:

Daily marijuana smoking for 2 months could result in mild withdrawal when it is stopped suddenly. The symptoms are temporary and nothing needs to be done. Extra water may help, but it will soon be over.
