Root Canals

Another root canal?

01/03/2006

Question:

About 4 years I had an infection in my tooth and had to have a root canal done on it. A year after, my dentist discovered that the tooth was infected again. So I had to see an endodontist and they told me it wasn`t anything to be concerned about and just asked me to come back in a month to check on it. When I had returned back they said the infection went away. Well now 2 years later, it is giving me problems like I have never felt before with it. My tooth is shifting around in my gum and sometimes it will hurt. I have had so many issues with this tooth including the fact that it has a fake enamel (my tooth grew in with no enamel). I currently don`t have dental insurance right now and I`m not sure what to do. Do you think it could be another infection? Im concerned about it and I don`t want it to result in my tooth falling out. Thank you

Answer:

You definitely want to have the tooth looked at again. The looseness you feel could be due to a recurring infection, or it could be due to a root fracture or periodontal disease. In all 3 cases treatment would be needed in order to save the tooth. If the root is fractured or the periodontal disease is severe - you may end up losing the tooth.

Again, a re-evaluation of this tooth should be done soon to prevent the problem/s from getting worse. Good luck.
