Soar burning in the throat

Question:

my throat is soar, very dry and burning. orange juice, soda burns my throat. this in around the location of the adams apple. when I cough it really hurts my throat. at times I feel some discomfort in both my ears. dry, burning, difficult swallowing becomes worse in the night.

Answer:

Often, burning in the throat is causes by acid reflux disease.  Avoidance of foods such as alcohol and caffeinated products may be helpful.  Also, avoid eating and drinking before bedtime.  Some people require a prescription acid medication.  The pain in the ears is concerning for other pathologies, and a thorough head and neck exam by an otolaryngologist is required.
