Hot flash when food reaches lower G.I.

02/20/2006

Question:

My godmother (who knows I`m a good researcher) wants to know if it`s common to experience a hot flash when the rectum is under pressure, due to "gas". She says if she takes Beano, it prevents the hot flashes. But she`s majorly curious about whether anybody`s looked into how prevalent this weird symptom is. I said I`d take a shot at finding out. Thanks.

Answer:

I have not heard of GI symptoms causing hot flashes apart from hot, spicey foods and alcohol intake.  An internet search brought up nothing.  Perhaps you godmother can do her own research and see if Beano works for other people.
