Urinary Disorders

Testicular Torsion

02/28/2006

Question:

Hi I have a question regarding testicular torsion. I have been having some twitching in my scrotum and I was whether this twitching can cause testicular torsion as I am aware that muscle spasms can cause torsion. Also I would like to know when a doctor feels the testicles can the doctor loosen the attachment which attaches the testicles to the scrotum predisposing me to testicular torsion. I have been worried about this because I have been to a lot of doctors and some of the doctors felt my testicles in a rough and ungentle manner. Thanks.

Answer:

I don't know your age but testicular torsion is unusual in men over 20.  It typically occurs in boys aged 12-14.  The pain is quite severe and is associated with acute swelling of the testicle.

Though I don't believe you are experiencing torsion, I suggest you consult with a urologist who should be able to properly evaluate you.
