Menopause

How long does menopause last?

03/15/2006

Question:

I am 49 soon to be 50 and I have been having all symptoms for the last 2 to 3 years. I was just wondering how long menopause last??

Answer:

The entire transition from the first changes in cycle regularity to one year after the last menstrual is thought to last around 4-5 years.  Hot flashes can persist even longer, but typically they become milder and less frequent as time passes.
