Fosomax, Food, and Laying Down

My mother is in an assisted-living facility, and is currently taking Fosomax. It is my understanding that you are supposed to take Fosomax on an empty stomach and stay upright for 30 minutes. Is it harmful if you lay back down after taking it? Also, if you take Fosomax with Food, does your body benefit at all from taking Fosomax?

You are correct about how to take Fosamax:  on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, do not lie down or recline and do not eat or drink anything but water for a full half hour after taking the medication.  Ingesting other food or beverage will prevent absorption of the Fosamax and thus result in no benefit.  Fosamax can severely irritate the esophagus to the point of causing internal bleeding if one reclines or lies down after taking it.
