Black discharge from breasts

03/27/2006

Question:

I am 61 years old, and for about 2 years, I have had a black discharge from my breasts if the nipples are squeezed. Since it is equally in both breasts, I have not been too concerned, but since it is definitely black (not gray or greenish, which I guess indicates infection), I am wondering about it a bit. Also, my husband is turned off by it! I am not on any of the medications that are known to cause breast discharge.

Answer:

Sometimes black is really dark red and may represent bloody discharge. I would suggest you be examined by a breast specialist and have a mammogram completed.
