Urinary Disorders

Frequent Urge To Urinate

04/17/2006

Question:

I am a 31 yr old female and for the past 2 weeks I have felt an almost constant urge to urinate. About 10-15 minutes after I urinate, I feel the need to void again. My doctor has ruled out a UTI, both urine dip and culture came back negative. I have not other symptoms, no pain, no increased volume, no fever, I am not pregnant. To date, the doctor`s advice has been to push fluids and see if this feeling goes away. In the mean time, I have been going crazy with this urge. Any idea as to what is wrong with me? What direction should I pursue to get this annoying problem resolved.

Answer:

I have had female patients with irritable symptoms as you describe and who I have place on a short course of antibiotics even though the urine culture has been negative.  I suggest you discuss this with your physician for some patients will benefit from this approach.
