When does lactation end?06/19/2006 |
I stopped breastfeeding my son 4 months ago, but am still lactating. When does lactation typically end?
Milk production by the breast is due to stimulation. If your breast continue to be stimulated they may think that they still need to make milk. You can avoid stimulating them by wearing a supportive bra, not putting your baby near your breast, avoid touching and "checking to see if there is milk". The less you stimulate your breast the less milk you will produce. If you are doing all of these things, and continue to make milk, then you should consult your health care provider.
