Discharge

05/21/2006

Question:

Can noninfectious vaginitis cause yellow vaginal discharge? I`ve been having vaginal discharge for some time now, and my doctor diagnosed it as noninfectious vaginitis. I had a vaginal culture done, and that came out normal. I`m not sexually active. Could anything else be causing this?

Answer:

There are a number of possible causes for a vaginal discharge. It can be a natural body response to hormonal changes every month. It can also be from bacterial vaginosis or other possible infections in the cervical or vaginal canal. Make sure you follow up with your doctor to have tests done (if not done yet) for gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomonas, bacterial vaginosis. If all these are negative - it may just be a normal bodily function. It's very important to see and talk to your doctor about this if it's still bothering you.
