Delayed menstrual cycle05/25/2006 |
Brief history: I am 25 years old, married, no children. I`m 5`2", obese, problems with anxiety/depression for past 4 years. Not on any medication, never had any other medical conditions. I do use a contraceptive gel (Conceptrol). I started my first cycle when I was 12. Normally, my periods were always exactly 28/29 days apart and last five days, with normal blood flow. But for the past 6 months, I have had some occasional soarness in the lower abdomen outside my cycle (especially after wearing snug-fitting pants). Also, my last 3 periods have been 35-38 days apart, still lasting 5 days with normal bleeding. PMS symptoms have been very intense. On a more personal note, my newly-wed husband and I have recently started changing our regular sexual position....I only mention it because I was wondering if this could be responsible for the lower abdominal pain? Thanks
The change in the cycles could be from the body's inability to ovulate. When ovulation doesn't occur, the signal for menses isn't given and the cycles can be irregular. The fact that your cycles are still fairly regular (albeit longer) and follow PMS symptoms indicate that ovulation is happening. The abdominal pain you describe is fairly vague and without more information along with an exam, I can't make any guesses as to what it might be. I would refer you to your gynecologist for a more complete history and exam.
