Osteoporosis

Actonel and vitamin supplements

06/05/2006

Question:

how much calcium and vitamin should I take along with actonel?

Answer:

A standard recommendation for calcium is 1200 mg/day for postmenopausal women, no more than 500 mg at a time.  Count your food intake at part of the total.  Women should take at least 400 IU of vitamin D per day.  Women 70 years old and older should take 600-800 IU/day.  Vitamin D recommendations are being reviewed, and we may see higher recommendations in the near future.
