Twisted ascending colon discovered

06/08/2006

Question:

having had a colonoscopy in Sept 05 I was told my ascending colon was twisted and not clean and instrument could not be inserted to examine this stretch of colon. How will this affect any IBS I seem to have now??

Answer:

It is likely the cause of your IBS-like symptoms, including cramping and bloating. Perhaps a barium enema would have some utility in determining the extent of the twist, and whether your "IBS" symptoms are actually due to intermittent volvulus or bascule of the cecum.
