Myasthenia Gravis

LEMS testing

06/26/2006

Question:

PLEASE IF YOU CAN LIST THE BLOOD WORK UP INDICATED FOR LEMS AND PARA NEOPLASTIC DISEASE. THANK YOU.

Answer:

There is one specific blood test: an antibody to the P/Q type voltage gated calcium channel (VGCC). It is commercially available through companies (like Athena) and also through the Mayo Clinic labs. The Mayo Clinic also has this great panel called the "Paraneoplastic Cascade" panel, that tests for multiple paraneoplastic antibodies. I usually also check a serum protein electrophoresis.
