COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

What does `cloudy` lung mean?

07/18/2006

Question:

My mother just had a breast biopsy for abnormal mammo/x-ray.. she also got a chest x-ray. Breast came back negative; but today they said she has a "cloudy" spot in one of her lungs, so she has to go get a Body(?) or CT scan or something. Are they looking to rule out lung cancer?

Answer:

A "cloudy" spot could mean many different things such as fluid, mass or infection. Further evaluation by a body PET scan or a chest CT scan might be necessary.
