Menopause

Pregnancy

Question:

I am wondering about the use of birth control now that I believe that I am in the midst of menopause. I am 52 yrs., have had irregular periods for the last year and have not had a period now for 6 months. When is it safe to not use birth control? I am really concerned about this because we have 4 children, I have had 4 miscarriaages and get pregnant really easy. I want to feel confident that if we have sex and do not use any protection that I will not worry about this. Thank you.

Answer:

It is recommended that a woman of menopausal age experience one entire year of no menses before considering herself menopausal.
