Transmission of chlamydia

07/24/2006

Question:

Can you get chlamydia by having anal intercourse and then having vaginal intercourse? Can chlamydia develop without getting infected by someone else or an infected object?

Answer:

Because chlamydia lives in the bodily fluids, it can be passed by a person or object. This is why safer sexual practices includes not sharing sexual devices with other people. I am not sure what is specifically being asked about first having anal and then vaginal intercourse. If someone has chlamydia in the rectum, it can be passed in this manner, but just having anal intercourse isn't the cause of chlamydia infections.
