Testing for Swollen Thyroid09/19/2006 |
I have been having problems with the front of my neck where it meets the breast bone. I have seen my regular doctor, and she has me set up for a MRI. Is this the proper test? She has told me that she feels the thyroid is swollen and that the lymph nodes feel swollen also. I always feel like I am being choked, and have problems sleeping. It is worse when I lay on my back. I want to stay proactive and know what I should be asking. Any advise will be would be helpful. Thank you!
A CT or MRI of the neck is a reasonable place to start, since it is not clear that your symptoms are caused by your thyroid gland. Typically ultrasound is the first test used when we know it is the thyroid gland that we want to check out.
