Menopause

Gradual shortening of menstral cycle

08/10/2006

Question:

I`m 43 and my 28 day menstral cycle has gradually shortened to a 22 day cycle over the past 3 years. Is this normal in pre-menopause?

Answer:

Shortening of the menstrual cycle is common in the 40s.  It would not be good to be having heavy bleeding every 3 to three and one-half weeks, so if that is happening, please discuss it with your clinician.
