Local anesthetic solutions08/03/2006 |
Why are there so many different types of local anesthetic solutions?
Good question. Most of the local anesthetics have different times for onset and duration. Some require epinephrine (Adrenaline) for proper effectiveness, some do not. The use of this added drug can decrease bleeding during some oral surgical procedures as well. Most dentist have at least two local anesthetics available to allow for anesthesia for shorter or longer procedures so the patient is not "numb" for unwanted periods of time and also for some patients with certain medical conditions.
