Tremors during sleep08/24/2006 |
Does a person with a PD related tremor have a tremor during sleep? If there is no tremor while sleeping, could this indicate another type of tremor?
There are actually very few movement disorders that continue during sleep. Tremor of PD becomes quiescent with sleep. There may be tremor noted when the patient is completely relaxed and in the wake - sleep transition. Often this is misinterpreted as tremor while asleep. The activity occurring in the transition actually demonstrates the increase in a PD tremor when complete relaxation occurs, underscoring this tremor as a "rest tremor".
