Ear, Nose, and Throat Disorders

Purple ear wax

09/06/2006

Question:

Over the past 9 months the wax in my ears is purple in color. What would cause this to happen. I have researched the subject but to no avail. Can you tell me.

Answer:

Ear wax can change color due to any medicines you put in the ear.  It can also be due to normal aging processes and the dying off of wax glands.

Of concern though: it can also be due to ear disease.  I recommend that you see an otologist (ear specialist) and get examined for signs of ear disease.
