Acute & chronic cystic cervicitis

10/01/1998

Question:

What is "acute & chronic cystic cervicitis"? Should I do something about it?

Answer:

Cervicitis is inflammation of the cervix. Acute and chronic changes means just that; some of the changes are new and some have been present for a longer period of time. I am not sure what cystic refers to, but it means a fluid filled structure. Cervicitis is a common finding. The cervix is sensitive to the acidic environment of the vagina and responds with inflammation. If there are no other symptoms of a vaginal infection, nothing else needs to be done.
