Tampon stuck

10/23/2006

Question:

I had sex while using a tampon. This pushed the tampon far inside me and I am unable to reach it. Will it come out on its own or do I need to see a doctor to have it removed?

Answer:

If you can't get it out on your own, you need to have it removed. It shouldn't stay in for much longer than 6-8 hours. Not only will it cause profuse discharge, a foul smelling discharge, but it can also lead to a serious infection like toxic shock syndrome.
