Black spot on gums below cavity filled tooth10/30/2006 |
I have a tender area around one tooth and gum area. I have noticed the gum area beneath this cavity filled tooth has turned black. I have a dental appointment in two weeks but would like to know what I may be in for before going. Some hints on what to expect would be helpful.
It is hard to tell from your description. If the pain is confined to the gum area only, then it may be an abscess forming for some reason - either food impaction or a bad restoration, etc.
If the pain is coming from the tooth, it may be a secondary decay under your restoration and may be affecting the nerve too...Thus, it needs to be examined both clinically and radiographically.
