Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

Baby aspirin/lexapro and bleeding

11/06/2006

Question:

I`m a 55 yr old male who takes a daily baby aspirin, just for prevention. I started taking the medication Lexapro and saw it mentions possible increased risk of bleeding (stomach/gastro) if taken with aspirin ("If patients use SSRIs and NSAIDs at the same time, the risk more than doubles, so they must be combined with care.") Would this also apply to daily baby aspirin or does that not pose a problem for most people? Thanks

Answer:

Athough the effect of low dose aspirin on platelets is less, there is still an effect.  However, we combine drugs with effects all the time, so you just have to not abuse medications and watch for increased bleeding.
