Anxiety and Stress Disorders (Children)
My daughter is pulling out her eyelashes. It started last year at the end of school, she stopped during summer vacation, and now she has started doing it again. I have also pulled out my eyelashes and eyebrows since I was 12 years old. I am upset that she is doing this because I know how embarrassing it is. How do I help her stop? We have had her see a counselor, but she did not respond well to her. Help!
Trichotillomania is treated by either medication (an antidepressant) or by behavioral therapy and perhaps a combination. You were not specific about the therapy involved so it is hard to determine your specific course of action. I would see medical consultation and discuss medication options.
