What is in Xanax?
This question has been forwarded by Digestive Disorders:
Xanax is made up of only one medicine, whose generic name is alprazolam. Alpraxolam is in a class of drugs called the benzodiazepines -- other drugs in this class include valium (diazepam) and librium (chlordiazepoxide).
Xanax is primarily an anti-anxiety drug that gives short term relief for anxiety, nervousness and panic disorders. Unfortunately, if used incorrectly, Xanax can be addicting and habit forming. Therefore, In treating anxiety disorders, Xanax is generally used only for short periods (usually days to months) while other safer medications that gradually take effect are begun.
