Free floating surgical clip in the pelvis

11/29/2006

Question:

What is a free floating surgical clip? I had a laproscopy done about a year ago. The diagnosis is PCOS, along with my fallopian tube was shut and had hyperplasia. The reason I ask about this clip is because I am having a lot of pain still. Could it be from it or the poly cystic ovaries?

Answer:

Surgical clips are commonly used in a variety of intra-abdominal procedures.  They are small and made out of non-reactive substances.  It would be highly unlikely that a clip would cause any pain.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition which causes irregular periods along with symptoms of excess androgens (male hormones), such as hair growth, skin changes, and hyperglycemia.  It does not typically cause pain.
