Obesity and Weight Management

Losing weight by eating

12/06/2006

Question:

If you have a high metabolism, and you eat alot. Can you lose wieght by eating alot?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.  Whether your metabolism is high or low, weight is lost when the calories you eat are less than the calories your body needs.  If your metabolism is high, you will be able to eat more calories and lose weight than someone with a low metabolism.  But, high and low are relative terms.  Someone with a metabolic rate of 1400 is fairly low but higher than someone with a rate of 1200 and lower than someone with a rate of 1800.  Each person is starting at a different caloric level.
