Can Stress Affect TSH Results?12/04/2006 |
I have a question about the stress and thyroid tests. Can severe stress affect the TSH tests results? If a person is under a lot of stress when he got tested for TSH, can it cause the TSH to be high? What are the things that affect the TSH test results?
Mental stress really should not affect the TSH. If your TSH is mildly elevated that makes it very likely that you have a little bit of thyroid underactivity. Not everyone agrees that slight TSH abnormalities need to be treated, but all agree that they should be followed to see if they worsen.
