Allergies

Can allergies cause fluid/ringing in the ears

12/11/2006

Question:

I think I have allergies because of my sneezing and drainage down my throat. Can allergies cause fluid in the ears that drain and cause ringing? I can feel the drainage at times in my ears and they some times crackle. The ringing comes and goes. How can I get rid of the fluid in my ears caused by allergies?

Answer:

Ear problems can be associated with allergies.  There is treatment available that would help alleviate these symptoms.  However, you first need to be diagnosed correctly to determine whether you have allergic or non-allergic rhinitis as the treatments are quite different.  I would recommend you see a board certified internal medicine trained allergist for further consultation.
