Question:

one of my friends mother have breast cancer.

what causes breast cancer?

Answer:

The cause of breast cancer remains unknown but there are several risk factors associataed with breast cancer. Breast cancer increases with age. Over two-thirds of breast cancer occurs in women over age 50. Family history plays an important role.. If a woman's sister or mother has had breast cancer, the chances of getting breast cancer are doubled. Family genes increase the risk of breast cancer. They are called BRCA1 and BRCA2 but only account for 4% of all breast cancers. So, we are still focusing on those women who are at high risk. That is, women over 50, family history of breast cancer, women who have a history of benign breast cysts, women who menstruated early and go through menopause late, women who remain childless, and a high dietary fat intake. These high risk women must participate in early detection behaviors which includes breast self exam every month, mammograms and clinical breast exams every year.
