Does Prilosec Decrease the Calcium in the Body?02/05/2007 |
My mom has severe osteoporosis and taking Actonel for that condition. However, she also takes Prilosec for acid reflux. She read somewhere that prilosec takes out calcium from your body and increases the risk of fractures, which she has had many so she wants to quit taking the prilosec. Is this true and should she do something more to supplement the calcium? I fear the acid reflux will do more harm.
Your mother should check with her physician to see if she needs to take Prilosec every day. Some people just take it when they are experiencing symptoms of reflux.
